How close to a fire hydrant can I legally park in Texas?

I have tried calling the local DPS office but was put on terminal hold. I'm asking for 2 reasons: 1) I have a fire hydrant right outside my house (the only hydrant on my street) and if I have visitors they have nowhere else to park-my drive only accomodates 2 vehicles. 2) My office is at a 4 way intersection with stop signs AND a fire hydrant. I know there is a law stating the distance you must be from a hydrant but I can't find it, some of my customers have been given tickets for parking near the hydrant (the stop sign at the intersection wasn't mentioned in the citation) and some customers have never even been approached or cautioned by a Police Officer. I really need to know so that I can post a notice in my office warning customers to park elsewhere-we have a car park but it's easier for customers (the lazy ones) to park at the curb and run in.

Is it illegal to park in front of an inactive fire hydrant?

Across the street from my apartment in Manhattan is an inactive fire hydrant. There are no caps on it and it clearly could not be used by the fire department as a water source. It wouldn't seem logical to me, then, that the same rules would apply as to an active hydrant and that one should be allowed to park in front of it, but I have never seen anyone do so. Does anyone know if it is in fact legal to park in front of an inactive hydrant?

A smart person would know that even if the 'caps' are missing on a fire hydrant, it still works. The valve is below ground level, and still works, even if the 'caps' are missing. If it is really defective, you should call the fire dept and report it. Maybe the house you save will be your own. That's way better than scamming the system for a parking spot for your vehicle.

What is the parking rule for blocking a fire hydrant on the inside of an off-street block?

My friend got a ticket for blocking within 15ft of a fire hydrant, but she parked on her block which has off-street parking, the hydrant is facing the other direction. Any way of getting out of this?

Was she withing 15ft? The fact is that 15 ft are 15 ft, and for the code it's irrelevant in what direction the hydrant is facing. Water hoses are flexible, but the fire fighter truck is not so they might need the whole area around the hydrant. Also they need the whole are to park other emergency vehicles and personnel.

How much is the cost for hitting a fire hydrant?

I live in California and my kids were riding their dune buggy yesterday in a dirt field and hit a fire hydrant. It spewed water for about an hour before it was finally under control. It is not insured and the fire dept told us they we would get a bill. Does anyone know what this will cost. I assume they will charge us for the water and repairs to the hydrant.

So, after being hit, in about 15 minutes a fire hydrant will spew around 20,000 gallons of water. You said it spewed for an hour....that's around 80,000 gallons of water. If the fire department has an extra one that they can replace it with, it will be about $1,500 for the hydrant. Now add the cost of all of the water that was lost. Yeah....ouch.
